Sectors

Context matters.
So does sector expertise.

Sector 01 / 12

Food Security & Livelihoods

Food security and livelihoods programmes succeed or fail on details that are hard to see from a distance. SREO monitors food, cash and livelihoods assistance on site and asks households what actually reached them. We run baselines, market and value chain analyses, and post-distribution monitoring. Our evaluations look at whether programmes built lasting resilience, not only short-term relief. Every study ends in practical recommendations for the next round of programming.

Protection

Protection work depends on trust, and so does gathering evidence about it. SREO designs research that is safe for the people who take part, with informed consent, careful data protection and a do-no-harm approach throughout. We monitor and evaluate protection, legal aid and psychosocial programmes for displaced people, returnees and host communities. Our studies look at risks, access to services and how communities see the support they receive. The result is evidence that helps programmes reach people safely.

Education

SREO monitors and evaluates education programmes, from formal schooling to non-formal learning and youth skills. We visit learning spaces to check that facilities, materials and teachers are in place. Surveys and interviews with parents, teachers and young people show whether access and learning are improving. Our studies also examine the barriers that keep children and young people out of education. Clients use the findings to adjust programmes and report to donors with confidence.

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

Water, sanitation and hygiene services have to work every day, not only on the day they are handed over. SREO verifies WASH infrastructure and services on site, from water points and networks to latrines and hygiene supplies. Household surveys measure access, water quality concerns and hygiene practices. We evaluate humanitarian WASH responses and assess markets for products such as household water treatment. The findings show what keeps services running and what needs fixing.

Shelter & Non-Food Items (NFIs)

Shelter and non-food item assistance has to arrive in the right quantity, at the right quality and at the right time. SREO monitors distributions and shelter work on site, checking items and repairs against what was planned. Post-distribution surveys ask households whether the assistance met their needs. We evaluate multisector programmes in which shelter sits alongside food and WASH support. Clients get a clear, independent picture of delivery and its effect.

Health & Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)

SREO monitors and evaluates health programmes, from primary health care and medical supply lines to reproductive health services. Our teams verify facilities, equipment and supplies on site and speak with patients and health workers. For mental health and psychosocial support, we use sensitive, ethical methods suited to the subject. We also study how people seek care, from access to services to blood donation. The evidence helps clients strengthen services where health systems are under strain.

Emergency Response

In an emergency, decisions cannot wait for a perfect dataset. SREO monitors emergency scale-ups to verify that lifesaving assistance reaches the people affected. Rapid assessments show needs, gaps and market conditions as a crisis unfolds. After the response, our evaluations look at timeliness, coverage and accountability to affected people. Clients get fast, reliable evidence when it matters most.

Climate & Environment

Conflict, climate stress and environmental damage often fall on the same communities. SREO brings its field research methods to these questions, such as assessing how explosive contamination affects farmland and the people who depend on it. We examine how environmental risks shape livelihoods, water and food security. Our evaluations can also ask whether programmes take climate and environmental risks into account. The findings help clients design programmes that protect both people and the resources they rely on.

Sector 09 / 12

Humanitarian Mine Action

Mine action saves lives and makes land safe to use again, and its results deserve careful measurement. SREO evaluates mine action and armed violence reduction programmes for operators and donors. We study what communities know, believe and do about explosive hazards and small arms. Our assessments also look at gender in mine action and at how contamination affects livelihoods. The evidence helps focus resources where they reduce risk most.

Peacebuilding & Governance

Lasting stability depends on trust between communities and the institutions that serve them. SREO evaluates stabilisation, social cohesion, return and reintegration programmes. Our conflict analyses and perception studies show how communities see security, justice and local authorities. We also explore new approaches, such as linking health and peace programming. Clients use the evidence to design programmes that are conflict-sensitive and accountable.

Election & Opinion Polling

Credible public opinion data matters most in fragile and politically sensitive settings. SREO conducts national and pre-election opinion polls with representative samples and rigorous quality control. Questionnaires are designed to be neutral, culturally appropriate and safe to answer. Our surveys measure public views on governance, public services and the issues that shape elections. Results come with their methods documented, so clients can trust and defend them.

Market Research

Strong programmes and investments start with a clear picture of the market. SREO conducts market assessments, value chain analyses and enterprise surveys, including in hard-to-reach areas. We interview businesses, suppliers and consumers to map prices, supply, demand and barriers. Our research helps clients choose the right products, partners and interventions. Findings are practical, with clear recommendations for action.
